Harrah's Wins Healthiest Company Award

Harrah's Rincon, San Diego was named the San Diego’s 5^th Healthiest Company at San Diego Business Journal’s award ceremony on September 15, 2011.  Harrah’s competed against fourteen other companies in the large employer category and was recognized for their efforts in creating a healthy workplace for employees.

Over the past few years Harrah’s has been growing their workplace wellness program.  In 2010 they formed a partnership with Tri Wellness to assist them in formalizing their efforts to improve employee wellness.  With the formation of this partnership, Tri Wellness has helped Harrah’s enhance their wellness program by creating a strategic roadmap targeting improvements in the population’s top health risks areas.

In the past year Tri Wellness and Harrah’s have formed an employee wellness committee, increased the number of healthy food options available in the cafeteria along with incentives for employees who choose healthy food options, and have organized an annual walking challenge and healthy eating challenge.

“Receiving this award was a huge accomplishment for Harrah’s.  They applied for the award in 2010 but did not place, and since then we have worked hard to improve the wellness program over the past year.  It’s very rewarding for both Tri Wellness and Harrah’s to have our work recognized,” said Tri Wellness’ CEO, Bucky Markus.

The goal for 2012 is to place even higher in the 2012 San Diego’s Healthy Company Awards.  In the coming year Tri Wellness and Harrah’s will continue work on enhancing the wellness program by measuring changes in annual biometric screening data, adding new employee engagement initiatives, and growing the wellness program to be company-wide to foster cultural change.
